Chapter 10

The Cathedral of Secrets

"You know... you don't need to go through all that trouble sewing my armor back together. I can just get a new set after we talk to Evita." I stared at Hildbova from my bed as she worked the thin needle through the thick leather armor.

"Absolutely not. I can't have you looking like some homeless bandit when meeting with Lady Evita. Try to have some pride in your appearance!" The nun proceeded to scold me for something stupid.

"Will you two keep it down? I'm trying to get a few more minutes of beauty sleep before we go..." The valkyrie lying in the bed beside mine huffed, covering her ears with her pillow.

"If you put the pillow over your head like that, you'll get bed hair..." I prodded the pink-haired idiot, hoping my words would urge her to move her sorry butt.

"Hah, someone like me would probably look even more beautiful with messy hair!" Hiva snorted, spinning my warning into a way to feed her ego.

"Regardless, I do hope Saavni gets done in the shower soon. I don't want to keep Lady Evita and Valda waiting." Hildbova tightened the last stitch on my armor before handing it back to me.

While a far cry from a professional's work, she did manage to repair most of the cuts and tears my armor had gathered during last night's battle.

"You sure do have a lot of random skills..." From cooking to sewing, it seemed like Hildbova was better equipped to be a wife than a priestess.

"They are not random." Hildbova crossed her legs, clearly preparing to go on a long-winded explanation. "During my training at the monastery, I and the rest of the nuns were taught basic household skills to help keep the abbey running. I can even act as a midwife if the need ever arises."

I groaned, regretting even making my innocent comment. At the very least, I gained some more insight into Hildbova's upbringing.

"Wow, you must've had some crummy tutors considering they failed to teach you how to keep your legs closed." Hiva made a snide remark.

Right as it seemed like the two would start bickering, the door to the bathroom opened. Saavni then stepped out, completely dressed, ready for a day out in the holy city.

"Hope I didn't take too long. I wanted to make sure I washed off all the dust from that dirty chamber." Saavni ran her fingers through her still-damp hair, trying her best to dry it.

"Don't worry about it. We should just get to the cathedral and see if Valda or Evita found anything." That was my main focus at the moment. Surely with all the evidence we left in the underground chamber, someone could make a connection to this Mother person.

The four of us finished getting ready and left our hotel room, making our way downstairs through the lobby and out the front door.

The trip through the city felt rather relaxing. Then again, after last night, a trek through a hurricane would be pleasant.
